24 Hours of Sunlight

Last night (and I use the term "night" very loosely) was my first experience of 24 hours of sunlight. This is going to take a bit of getting used to.

Australian Delegation enjoy a Norwegian lunch

Today is a day of meet and greet and regional meetings before the start of the Global Indigenous Preparatory Conference for World Conference on Indigenous Peoples 2014. We are at the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders component of the Pacific Region meeting. After regional meeting we enjoyed a superb lunch together.

First Taste of Whale

First night ... [Can you say that when it doesn't get dark at all - 24 hours of light] ... and no-one is game to order peppered whale steak. They all order homemade chicken schnitzel. A young lady brings out a a tasting plate of whale and convinces us to try as it is not always available.

She was right. It's very nice. Bit like kangaroo but not as gamey or grainy. A first for all of us.

Dinner as sun goes down over Oslo

Settled into the Radisson Blue in Oslo.

Late dinner with Aunty Boni and Diat as the sun start to go down at (10:30 pm) 34 Restaurant and Bar.

It's an absolutely amazing view of the city while I enjoy my panfried scallop, celery pannacotta, green asparagus and lemon coulis, followed by lobster gratinated. Aunties enjoyed chicken stuffed with lobster fresh pasta and lobster bisque reduction. Well Diat not so much.

Great view and superb food. A class of red wine at $A20! Ouch.

Arrive at Oslo

Good Morning we have arrived. It took 27 hours in total. We arrived in Oslo via Berlin 10.00am local time. We go outside and sit to check paperwork on accommodation. DC wants to catch a taxi.

Before doing this I go and see which way is best way? Lucky, as it is a two hour flight to our hotel in Alto. And it's a charter flight, but we're not sure on time or terminal! Turns out we have no accommodation for tonight............ A first for me. Stay tuned!

Now where was I up to? Oh that's right panic setting in. Then David Lee heard our Australian accents, a godsend. Then we meet up with some of the Australian delegation. So good to be with young person who knows what they are doing, thank you David. On train to Central, praying that the Radisson Blu has a spare room.

In Oslo

It has been 27 hours - 3 flights. We are finally here.
